Organic Rice From Haiti on Amazon

Some Good news for the Haitian rice farmer, U.S. imports eclipse Haitian production "There's a long history in Haiti of groups like USAID flooding the market with rice and other imports," said Victor. "This is not what we need. We need real help and that means completely changing the agricultural system." Agricultural production accounted for nearly half of gross domestic product in the 1970s. It now amounts to less than a third. And U.S. rice imports have long eclipsed Haitian production, due in part to smaller local yields because of environmental degradation and the lowest rice import tariffs in the Caribbean community.

Now you can help correct those wrongs by purchasing Rice from Haiti in the comfort of your own house.

Tele Magic Digital Plus Hommage a PaPa Pierre

Helping Puerto Rico and the Islands affected by Hurricane Irma

Puerto Rico is virtually without power or cell service after Hurricane Maria barreled through the island, leaving those searching for loved ones in a shroud of uncertainty. Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló said the island is facing an "unprecedented disaster" after the storm made landfall as a powerful Category 4 hurricane. While about 5 percent of electricity had been restored across the island by Monday night, generators remain the only source of power for more than 3 million American citizens. The storm killed at least 16 and left the island littered with rubble from demolished homes and downed trees and power lines. How to help relief efforts Click Here

Donate supplies:

Puerto Rico's government created a presentation on the emergency and construction supplies needed to help those in need. It is also urging people to use social media to encourage people to donate to the relief fund. Puerto Rico's first lady, Beatriz Rosselló, has also set up a relief fund called United for Puerto Rico, which connects those in need to the private sector. Volunteer: Volunteer or contribute to the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, or the Salvation Army, which are accepting relief funds for areas affected by hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. Pierre Garçon Back at it

Pierre Garcon helping Native Haiti

Garçon is of Haitian descent, and he has used his platform to help Haiti in its continued efforts to rebuild after the 2010 earthquake. It's been seven years, but the country still has a lot of work to do. Garçon has used his foundation to, "bring enduring education, health and community programs to the people of Haiti; to provide long-term sustainable initiatives that will continue to positively influence the lives of Haitians."

Lately, that has involved pushing hard on getting people to buy Garçon Haiti apparel. The shirt includes his name with the Haitian flag worked into the design.

Strong Earthquake in Mexico

The U.S. Geological Survey calculated its magnitude at 7.1 on the Richter scale and said it was centered near the Puebla state town of Raboso, about 75 miles southeast of Mexico City. At a nearby market, a worker in a hard-hat walked around the outside warning people not to smoke as a smell of gas filled the air. Market stall vendor Edith Lopez, 25, said she was in a taxi a few blocks away when the quake struck. She said she saw glass bursting out of the windows of some buildings. Click here to read
